"Boy Meets World" were relieved to learn earlier this week that Ben Savage and Danielle Fisher would be reprising their roles as Cory and Topanga for the new Disney spinoff, "Girl Meets World." But the pilot and casting news has lead many to wonder if we can expect more familiar faces on the reboot.
While Cory and Topanga's romance was a major relationship in the series, so was Cory's friendship with Shawn. The pair were inseparable in the seven year run, yet no official news on the return of actor Rider Strong has been announced. Well, Strong was able to clear up a few things for "Boy Meets World" fans on his website.
"For more than two-thirds of my life, I've had the good fortune to experience the incredible support of Boy Meets World fans. Complete strangers hug me on the street. I've been mobbed by school children on the subway. I've had tow-truck drivers recognize me and refuse to let me pay," Strong says of his experiences post the show. "'Boy Meets World' was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job - on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it."
While the post does nothing but praise his time on the show, fans hoping to see Strong on "Girl Meets World" shouldn't get too excited just yet. Strong goes on to say that while he's happy that his former co-stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel get to continue the "Boy Meets World" story, "I have no official involvement in 'Girl Meets World.'"
You read it right. Strong will not be involved in the new Disney spinoff. However, Strong does give fans a little hope about seeing Shawn return to the screen.
"There might be a chance to see some of the 'BMW' cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years," he says of reprising Shawn and possibly others (like former beau, Angela?). But like Danielle Fishel said before him, "Girl Meets World "should be its own show."
"It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters," Strong concluded. "It's the next generation. And I, for one, can't wait to see it evolve."
So all in all, Shawn won't be signing onto "Girl Meets World," but hope for a guest spot in the "Boy Meets World" spinoff still exists!
