R&B star Chris Brown has canceled a concert in Guyana after residents protested the singer's appearance because of the domestic violence incident involving Rihanna in 2009. The "Carpe Diem" world tour show was scheduled for Dec. 26 but Guyanese women's rights groups, and lawmakers who support them, said he is not welcome in Guyana because of the 2009 beating. Concert promoter Hits & Jams Entertainment said Thursday that Brown backed out, citing discomfort with the protests.
The 2009 incident made international headlines because of the severity of Rihanna's injuries. There were major contusions on both sides of her face, her lip split her nose nearly broken and bite marks on her arms and fingers. Police took photos of Rihanna after the incident because she initially declined to press charges. She later recanted, and Brown was charged with one count of felony assault.
Since then Chris Brown has worked hard to rebuild his image and his relationship with Rihanna. The two have a duet on Rihanna's new album, and the two have been spotted in public several times in the last few weeks. The sightings have spawned rumors of a rekindled romance between the two, something that came as a surprise to Rihanna's loyal fanbase. There are even rumors that the pop star is pregnant with Chris brown's baby.
Rihanna has apparently forgiven Chris Brown. But Guyana won't let him off the hook so easy.
