Guy Fieri and his American Kitchen & Bar just received some much needed backup in his dispute with New York Times reviewer Pete Wells, and from a rather unlikely source.

Though its only a rehearsal video, a new SNL Weekend Update skit poking fun at the "controversy" currently surrounding Guy's American Kitchen & Bar in Times Square has been uploaded to the show's official website. While it's not nearly as intense as the original review which sparked the discussion, or Fieri's subsequent defense of said criticisms, the video does manage to remind viewers that the whole situation is being blown pretty far out of proportion.

Exactly one week ago, the New York Times' Pete Wells decided to pay a visit to Guy's American Kitchen & Bar for his next review. As Meyers and Moynihan pointed out, there really isn't any explanation for why a reviewer in search of fine dining would head to Time Square, but I digress. Wells clearly did not enjoy his time at Fieri's newest restaurant, and spared nothing in his absolutely scathing write-up about the location.

Calling food at the restaurant "inedible", Wells asked rhetorical questions about the quality of just about every entry on the menu, hiring decisions, pricing, and pretty much everything else you could critique during an hour or two inside of a restaurant. The review shocked many, and foodies across the country just couldn't stop talking about Wells fiery take down of the loved/hated part-time TV chef.

After the review's virility left it almost impossible to ignore, Guy Fieri took part in an interview with Savannah Guthrie for TODAY during which he defended both his restaurant and his staff against comments made by Wells. He also questioned the Times writer's motivation, noting a common lack of respect shown for Fieri and his methods among many in the New York food scene. The entire ordeal was certainly enough to make you wonder if Wells wasn't secretly a fan of Anthony Bourdain who harbored the same distaste for the 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives' host as the author/chef/TV host responsible for creating 'No Reservations'.

Of course, if you watch SNL regularly, you might be thinking, "I don't remember this skit at all!"

Don't worry, you didn't somehow forget about Moynihan's amazing take on Guy Fieri. For some unknown reason, even though it was still being rehearsed on Saturday afternoon, it appears that someone at the network decided the Guy Fieri skit wasn't ready for television.

The three minute sketch was reportedly cut from last weekend's episode, which featured host Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Hawkeye from the 'Avengers' movie, and there's no official word yet on why the Weekend Update bit was cut from the show. It obviously wasn't because the skit wasn't funny though, leaving us wondering if that "La Circ my la dirk" close-out might have been what pushed it over the top.
