Trekkie alert! An extended trailer of "Star Trek Into Darkness" will be launched by Paramount in IMAX 3-D theaters on Dec. 14. The trailer will play before "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."
The showing of the trailer will be the first time footage is exclusively played in IMAX 3-D. And only twice before has exclusive footage been presented in IMAX. The nine minutes will precede "The Hobbit" in around 500 theaters.
"Our longtime partners J.J.Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park-the footage is absolutely incredible," IMAX Filmed Entertainment Chair Greg Foster said.
Due to hit theaters on May 17, this installment of the cult sci-fi series will once again feature hotties Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana. Zachary Quinto will reprise his role as a young Spock.
The twelfth film in the franchise was delayed a year, with an original release date of June 29, 2012. J.J. Abrams stalled on a decision whether he would sign on for the sequel, making fans nervous that the new installment wouldn't meet expectations. But he finally inked a deal. So Kirk and Spock were able to get to work.
Can't wait for the December trailer? Here's a look back at the 2009 film...
