Lena Dunham, writer/star of the HBO hit series "Girls," shot an endorsement ad for the Obama campaign encouraging girls to spend their "first time" with Obama. The "first time" Obama ad is obviously about voting, but the tone and humor of the ad makes it seem like she's talking about sexual virginity.

"Your first time shouldn't be with just anybody, you wanna do it with a great guy," she says in the ad designed to target female voters in key swing states like Ohio. "Not with someone who doesn't think gay people should have beautiful, complicated weddings like the kind we see on Bravo or TLC all the time."

Lena Dunham's Obama ad is a joke that some on the right feel goes too far. Tweets condemned the ad almost immediately.

There was also outrage over Lena Dunham's Obama ad appearing on conservative news sites. Ben Shapiro, of Breitbart, called the ad "astoundingly tasteless." He argues that the ad "exploits [women] for insane commercials comparing losing your virginity with voting. Obama has young daughters. But that didn't stop him from releasing this commercial. Because this is what Obama thinks of your daughters."

Kathryn Jean Lopez of the National Review called Lena Dunham's Obama ad "beyond awkward" and claims that it actually shows how out of touch the Obama administration is when it comes to female voters.

"In its way it is totally appropriate for the administration that thinks all women care about is mandated birth control, abortion, and sterilization coverage and that those of us with moral objections are bitterly clinging to an outdated understanding of what's healthy, for democracy (religious liberty), in our lives" she writes.

Red State writer Breeane Howe  said "there seems to be no low to which President Obama will sink in his desperate attempt to win reelection." She goes on to criticize Dunham for "[being] raised in a wealthy, over-sexualized household and who started therapy at age 7." Howe mentions that the ad is similar to a campaign ad run by Vladimir Putin that had a similar message that many found creepy and that Obama, with two daughter, should "know better."

If the goal of Lena Dunham's Obama ad was to inflame the right, then it succeeded. If it was to court crucial female voters, we'll find out on election day.
