On Monday, Sept. 10, "The Vampire Diaries" celebrated it's three year anniversary. The hit CW show first aired on Sept. 10, 2009, and has since made a name for itself as one of the hottest dramas (with the hottest actors) currently on T.V. To celebrate the big day, "Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec treated fans to a list of her favorite episodes.
Sunday evening Plec took to Twitter to begin her list of favorite episodes in order of air date. The executive producer named a total of 17 episodes out of 66 that currently aired in the past three seasons.
Plec kicked off her list with season one, episode three, "Friday Night Bites." According to the executive producer, the episode makes her cut of favorite episodes "for our first understanding of who Damon was and who he was going to become."
Next on Plec's list is season one, episode five, "You're Undead To Me," followed by season one, episode six, "Lost Girls," season one, episode nine, "History Repeating," season one, episode 17, "Let The Right One In," and finally rounding out the first season, episode 22, "Founder's Day."
Before Julie Plec could move onto her favorite episodes in season two, she named an honorary mention for season one. "'Under Control," Plec tweeted. "Because of getting to watch @paulwesley try not to lose his Rippah s--t. And for Uncle John and Paramore."
Beginning her list of favorite season two episode of "The Vampire Diaries," Plec starts by naming an episode that is in her top five favorites. Taking the honor is episode six,
"Plan B."
"To this day one of my Top 5," she says of the episode. "First major act 6 sob-fest of the season. And Katherine at her most diabolical. RIP Uncle Mason."
Other season two favorites include episode seven, "Masquerade," episode nine, "Katerina," episode 12, "The Descent," and episode 19, "Klaus."
"Never was an episode full of exposition so well-executed," Plec tweets of "Klaus." "And Because the Sun and Moon Curse was fake."
Moving into season three, Plec starts off with episode three, "The End of the Affair," an episode that takes fans back in time to Stefan's ripper days. The executive producer continues with episode five, "The Reckoning," an episode she claims may be "my number on favorite episode of the whole series."
Following "The Reckoning" is episode seven, "Ghost World," episode 11, "Our Town," and finally, episode 20, "Do Not Go Gentle."
Surprisingly the season three finale episode, "The Departed," which showed Elena waking up after drowning with vampire blood in her system, did not make Plec's cut of favorite episodes.
"Lots of asking about 'The Departed,'" Plec tweeted following her list of favorite episodes. "I of course LOVE, but it was a traumatic prep/production/post process so I'm a bit too jaded...One day I'll tell the story of how we almost didn't get the Sigur Ros song."
Fans didn't seem to agree with Plec's choice of leaving out "The Departed" though, causing her to defend her decision.
"Don't turn this into shipper politics, you guys," she tweeted. "Just because an episode has some AMAZING scenes does not mean it has to be one of my faves."
