Katie Holmes' career has increased tremendously since she filed for divorce from husband Tom Cruise. Holmes - who is poised to showcase her ready-to-wear line, "Holmes & Yang," on Sept.12, during New York Fashion Week, has just landed a major deal with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
The protective mom will appear in the brand's forthcoming ad campaign next spring and her name will be displayed on a capsule collection of color cosmetics, in fall 2013. According to WWD magazine, Holmes' contract is worth approximately $2 million to $3 million.
Holmes and her partner Jeanne Yang, decided to launch the line (which is already available at Maxfield, Barney's in NYC and Dallas Boutique Forty Five Ten) this season, "because the brand is growing and expanding, and so we thought we would have something a little more substantial."
In Lieu of an extravagant showcase, the budding designers opted for a small presentation at NYFW. "We've been very gradual from the beginning, and part of that has been because we've wanted to take the time to get to know the business, get to know the right stores - and, most importantly, to get to know the customer and what she needs," they said. "In terms of the presentation versus the show, we felt a presentation was more appropriate for the clothes we sell. It's a little more our speed in the way we wanted to go about it, and more of a transition for us from meeting privately with buyers in a hotel room to going right to a big show."
The duo described "Holmes and Yang" as "very simple, with very classic lines." They "use a lot of silks and leathers and suedes. And are excited because they've " incorporated a lot of new trims. It's basically pieces that have evolved from basics, but not too far. They're just nice, well-made luxury items that highlight the woman wearing them." They mused.
"We have a lot of casual, and gowns, some unique jackets." Details include shirts lined in silk - "the silky part of the shirt is on your body all day."
Holmes won't be designing any ensembles for her fashionable tot, Suri, anytime soon. "It's a lot of work for a price point that really doesn't make sense for that age," she said. "Obviously, they can't wear them very long."
