Lana Del Rey recently gave a heartfelt rendition of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box," in Sydney, Australia. But Courtney Love, who was married to Nirvana's late lead singer, Kurt Cobain, felt compelled to remind the artist that the song was written about her lady part.
"You do know the song is about my Vagina right? 'Throw down your umbilical noose so i can climb right back,' umm... On top of which some of the lyrics about my vagina I contributed. So umm next time you sing it, think about my vagina will you?"
Del Rey has been a devout fan of the embattled Cobain since childhood, and was likely aware of the song's hidden meaning.
It "stopped me dead in my tracks." Del Rey said about the first time she heard Cobain perform 'Heart-Shaped box." "Even at a young age, I really related to his sadness."
Perhaps realizing she crossed the line, the often troubled Love, tweeted something that resembled an apology.
"You are gorgeous and very talented, it was all in good humor love," she said. "it is true however bwahaa xc."
This isn't the first time Love has proven to lack censorship, whether with her words or body.
She recently accused former Nirvana frontman Dave Grohl, of hitting on her 19-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. "Dave's a piece of sh*t, but he's a really good drummer. You can quote me on that." She told the New York Daily News. To which her daughter responded:
"While I'm generally silent on the affairs of my biological mother, her recent tirade has taken a gross turn. I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. I'm in a monogamous relationship and very happy. Twitter should ban my mother."
A few years ago Love reached a new low, when she publicly permitted a homeless man to nurse on her nipples. The man, who we later learned to be an aspiring rapper named Kofi Asare, recounted the harrowing event:
"It happened on St. Patty's day on my way to work. I went into [Wendy's] and noticed there was a lot of paparazzi there. And Courtney Love was there just being herself, which is an unadulterated rock star and I was like... that's Courtney Love... that's Kurt Cobain's dame. She was just signing autographs, taking pictures and flashing people," Asare told SOHH.com.
"At that time I heard her entourage say they were coming to exit. I opened the door for her. I was trying to talk to her and maybe get a card because I just graduated in May. She was flashing everybody her breasts and we took a picture and I asked her, 'Courtney, one last flash.' She obliged and I just went for it. It was less than a second. By the time I turned my face the photographer flashed the shot. And there you have it. It was a classic New York City rock star moment."
