The official theme of tonight's episode of "Wilfred" is guilt. The unofficial theme is lies about dogs. We open on Ryan discussing guilt with Wilfred, specifically the guilt he feels over blackmailing his sister Kristen. This guilt is resurfacing now that she's coming back from India, and despite his lengthy email apology the guilt is threatening to eat him alive. Wilfred, decked out in freshly shoplifted sunglasses, advises Ryan to let go of the guilt. He explains that dogs only feel guilty for five seconds, which is the first lie about dogs of the night. If you've ever come home to a dog that's trashed the house or had an accident on the floor you know they can look chagrined for at least an hour.
When Kristen shows up on his doorstep six months pregnant she asks to stay a few days while her (married) boyfriend fixes up their condo. Ryan agrees, still feeling pretty guilty. While she insists she's forgiven him, her passive aggressive demands make it clear that she hasn't forgotten. Meanwhile, Wilfred is freaking out over the imminent infant by informing Ryan of an ongoing war between babies and dogs to determine who is cuter. This is the second lie about dogs. Anyone who has spent any time on YouTube knows there are hundreds of videos of dog and baby best friends. Wilfred, however, is hell bent on getting rid of the potential threat. This leads to him constantly trying to sabotage Kristen.
At work Ryan and Amanda share a kiss and some squid tacos. It's a sweet scene but it's so short and randomly thrown in it seems like its only purpose is to remind the audience the two are dating.
Back at Ryan's house Kristen's constant stream of demands is wearing on him, but when he confronts her she doubles over in pain. Appearing to cause his sister to go into premature labor doesn't help ease Ryan's guilt. When the EMTs arrive they explain the pains were a false alarm, but the scare does get Kristen's boyfriend to come over and show her some attention. While they're talking it out (among other activities) Ryan manages to convince Wilfred that he might get along with a baby.
The next day after her boyfriend makes it very clear that things aren't over between him and his wife, Kristen is forced to look at her past and realize while she thought she was mad at Ryan she was really made at herself for cheating on her husband and ending up with a married jerk. As Ryan comforts her Wilfred tries to make peace with the baby (who he can communicate with in the womb). While Ryan and Kristen's truce is sweet and sincere it looks like the baby isn't quiet ready to surrender to the dogs.
