We all fell in love with Emma Watson's alter ego, the quick-witted Hermione Granger, from the Harry Potter series. She knew it would be difficult to differentiate herself from the iconic character we've all grown to love. So she did what any fashionista in her position would do: She chopped off all her hair!
"I've wanted to do it since I was about 16, and when Harry Potter ended in June, I just needed a change," she told Vogue, "It was quite symbolic for me. It's very short. It was buzzed at the back and on the sides. And it's really liberating that I can walk out without thinking about it."
Emma received a maelstrom of media attention after shedding her youthful image. In all likelihood, that chic pixie-cut of hers only improved her image as the face of Vogue and Lancome.
The British actress handles her high-profile career with the utmost grace. It's rare for an actress her age to stay level-headed in Hollywood, but she's managed to do just that. "I have to really enjoy the good things because it makes the bad things OK," she explains. We say, that's an excellent way to handle the complexities of fame.
Since she didn't have a normal upbringing, Emma learned about makeup on the set of Harry Potter. "That was my playground. I would sit and play with lipsticks, foundations, and eye shadows." She always opts for subtlety on red carpet events, they certainly taught her well at Hogwarts.
Emma has used her fame to showcase the design talents of her fellow Brits. "I thought, if people are going to write about what I'm wearing, then I would wear young British designers who need the publicity."
The opinionated actress has also dabbled in fashion design. She's collaborated with People Tree, a fair-trade clothing organization, on three collections. "It was such hard work," she said. "I didn't realize what I was taking on. I was doing twelve-hour days on Harry Potter and then coming home to work for two more hours, sizing and cutting designs."
Emma has beauty, brains and is loyal. We're jealous!
