Singing soldier Timothy Michael Poe caught the crowds attention on "America's Got Talent" with not only his voice, but his brave war stories. Unfortunately that wasn't enough because the singing former solider was cut from the NBC talent competition on Tuesday.
"I don't know that he holds up to other singers on this show at all," judge Howie Mandel explained on the show while determining if the 35-year-old soldier should be cut.
Timothy Michael Poe's war story has been somewhat of a scandal on the talent show. When Poe first appeared on the "America's Got Talent" set, he revealed to the audience and judges that he was in Afghanistan in 2009, and was injured when he saved his fellow soldiers when he blocked a grenade blast. According to the Associated Press though, Poe's story doesn't match up.
The Minnesota National Guard revealed that they have no records showing that Poe was injured in combat while serving in Afghanistan.
Further fueling theories that the singing soldier is not being truthful about his combat experience is a photo he submitted to "America's Got Talent." The photo was taken in Afghanistan in 2006 -- but is of Staff Sgt. Norman Bone, not Timothy Michael Poe. Poe's fiance Carrie Moss was quick to try to soften the blow, explaining that in the rush to submit the photo they accidentally submitted the wrong one. Poe even revealed to a Dallas TV station that he believed he was telling the truth...he's just not sure what is real.
Although cut from the competition, no word was said about the singing soldier's flawed war story. Timothy Michael Poe ended his stint on "America's Got Talent" by singing George Strait's "The Chair."
