"The Munsters" are returning to TV and we have a sneak peek of the TV series, renamed "Mockingbird Lane," courtesy of writer Bryan Fuller's Twitter.
Originally airing in the 1960's on CBS, the sitcom about a family of monsters is coming back to life through NBC. Directed by Bryan Singer and written by Bryan Fuller, casting and other spoilers are slowly being leaked about the sitcom reinvention.
The latest leak is a photo of "The Munsters" home at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. On June 5 Fuller tweeted a photo of the house with a caption, "surveying construction of 1313." Earlier this evening he followed up with a tweet, "Cameras are rolling on #MockingbirdLane."
During "The Munsters" original airing in 1954, the house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane was fictionally placed in Mockingbird Heights, a location that was reportedly on the outskirts of Los Angeles. An old Victorian home, the original home of the Munsters had actually been remodeled over the years, and was featured on "Desperate Housewives" Wisteria Lane.
The 1313 Mockingbird Lane house was home to Herman (a Frankenstein creature) and Lily Munster (a vampire). Herman and Lily had a young son, Eddie (a werewolf), and were also guardians to their niece Marilyn (a normal teen). Also living in the 1313 Mockingbird Lane home was Lily's father, "Grandpa" (a vampire).
While the full casting details have not been revealed, Eddie Izzard has been cast as Grandpa in the reboot. The New York Daily News reported in March that he was the first actor cast in the pilot.
Dread Central has posted a picture of Izzard in one of Grandpa's costumes. The New York Daily News reported that Izzard's character will be powerful, and an irresistible womanizer, "capable of shape-shifting into rats, wolves, and various other animals at will."
Earlier this month Newsday reported that "Piranha" actor Jerry O'Connell has been cast as Herman. Although Fuller tweeted today, "Hoping to announce Lily soon," Newsday reported that Mariana Klaveno, who played Lorena on "True Blood," has been cast as Herman's Lily.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fuller revealed that the one-hour dramedy will be a monster upgrade, with more monsters making an appearance in the new series. "It's almost the 'Real Housewives of Transylvania,'" he revealed to EW. "These are blinged-out representation of what monsters would be doing if they lived in our society today."
"Mockingbird Lane" is expected to air in early 2013.
