Diamond Jubilee Fever Reaches New Heights at Hyde Park Festival

With patriotic fever in the air, thousands of families headed to Hyde Park this weekend to enjoy entertainment fit for a queen at the Jubilee Family Festival.

Hosted by Myleene Class and John Culshaw, the two-day event sponsored by Sainsbury's featured a dazzling Disney concert as well as exclusive West End performances from Billy Elliot the Musical, the Lion King and The National Theatres' War Horse.

While the motorcycle stunts, marching bands and parachutists boosted the excited energy, jubilant crowds were also treated to an impressive show from Strictly Come Dancing stars including Kara Tointen and Artem Chigvintsev,

Popular children's TV characters such as Thomas The Tank Engine, Fireman Sam and Angelina Ballerina received a warm welcome when they made an appearance at the Kids zone.

The Jubilee celebrations appeared to be have taken over the London site as a revellers dressed up for the occasion in red, white and blue outfits and could be seen carrying Union Jacks.

While British food and drink stalls were in abundance, a "village green" allowed visitors to take part in traditional games including tug-of-war and egg and spoon race.

Spectators were also gifted with limited edition Jubilee goody bag after collecting a selection of stamps from various stalls.

Zara,33, said she travelled from her native France to enjoy the array of festivities taking place during the extended bank holiday weekend.

She told IBTimes UK: "I just love the Queen. I came from France with my sister and my son so we can go to all the shows. My son is six so I know he will really like the Disney shows and the kid's games."

The ticket-only festival kicked-off a host of events organised to mark the Queens 60 years at the throne.

From 2-5 June, people across the country will be helping her majesty toast her reign by bringing out the bunting and attending events.
