Big Bang's T.O.P Court Hearing Set for June 29; Rapper Consumed Instant Cup Ramen Alone Before He Was Found Unconscious
South Korean boy band Big Bang has been soaring high since August 2006 and has earned an overwhelming fanbase worldwide, making it one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Each of its team members has their own fanbase too including rapper Choi Seung-hyun or best known as T.O.P. Unfortunately, the infamous rapper and singer-songwriter has been packed with controversy when he was caught smoking weed with an unidentified woman in his home in Seoul in October 2016. Recently, the rapper was found unconscious due to an apparent drug overdose.
Earlier reports from AllKPop say that Big Bang's T.O.P has not been seen outside in his dormitory for days in the wake of resuming his mandatory military service. It is said that he only consumed instant cup ramen throughout those days. He even refused to eat other food and doesn't want to go out of his dorm.
A few days ago, Big Bang's T.O.P was found unconscious in police barracks due to an overdose of prescribed tranquilizers, which is said to be an anti-anxiety medicine. It happened in the face of his impending prosecution due to his case by smoking marijuana as he was already suspended from his police duty. The rapper temporarily left his boy band group when he started his mandatory military service as a police officer in February 2017 and is supposedly set to be discharged in November 2018.
Following his marijuana controversy, Cosmopolitan reports that Big Bang's T.O.P sent out an apology letter through his agency, YG Entertainment, saying that he is extremely embarrassed for disappointing everyone. "I have no excuses and deserve any kind of punishment," he wrote. "I feel very regretful and fearful for having left an irreparable scar in everyone's hearts, including our members, my agency, friends and family. I will reflect on my wrongdoing over and over again."
At this time, Big Bang's T.O.P is recovering in a hospital and his first court date is set for June 29 as ordered by Judge Kim Ji Chul. He is required to attend the hearing but the court date might also change in accordance to his health condition. The hearing will take place at the Seoul Central Court at 11:30 AM KST.
