"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 appears to be leaning towards a cancellation on ABC, as the network recently announced that the show will be having an extended two-hour finale. Per Entertainment Weekly, the drama will be receiving an extended finale, which will air on May 14.
This made a lot of fans wonder whether this is a confirmation of "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 cancellation. As most fans know, the show has not been doing so well in ratings since the start of the season.
Network executives previously explained that "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 renewal may still happen, but a reboot of the show, along with its cast and plot, is in order. However, the extension of the show's finale has convinced a lot of viewers that "OUAT" Season 6 will soon be getting the axe from the network.
While this sounds like a gloomy news for "Once Upon a Time" Season 6, Carter Matt also notes that there is still a chance that the show will be renewed for Season 7. Showrunner Edward Kitsis shared in a recent interview that they may still bring back some characters for the seventh season such as Maleficent and Scarlet.
Kitsis' statement took on an optimistic note leading some to believe that "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 cancellation will not happen. However, co-showrunner Adam Horowitz explained that the finale will focus on the core characters in case the show no longer returns for Season 7.
