'Avatar 2' Begins Filming This Fall, Sigourney Weaver Confirms; 4 Sequels Confirmed
Actress Sigourney Weaver confirmed the next installment of James Cameron's fantasy movie "Avatar 2" will begin shooting this fall. There will be four movies prepared as the sequel.
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter on Monday night, April 2, the actress spilled the beans about the filming schedule of "Avatar 2." She was asked during the screening "The Assignment" at the Whitby Hotel in New York City.
“We’re starting training, and we’re starting... hmm, I probably can’t say anything. We will be actually shooting it by the fall,” Weaver replied when the reporter asked her. Prior to her confirmation, director James Cameron confirmed that scripts for the sequel movies have been completed. The sequel would consist of four movies started with "Avatar 2."
Cameron also announced earlier that the motion capture for "Avatar 2" will begin next August. However, the movie has been announced to delay its release from December 2018 as reported by IGN. The update of release schedule had not been announced. While the next three sequels are set to release every year starting 2020.
"Avatar 2" will continue the story in the previous movie. Following the war that ended with the stoppage of unobtanium mining effort in Pandora, the workers and military personnel were sent back to earth. Only some people from the earth were allowed to stay in Pandora, including Dr. Augustine (Weaver), her science team and Jake Scully (Sam Worthington). Jack, the disabled former U.S. Marine was transferred into his avatar permanently so he now has the body of the Na'vi.
The first movie "Avatar" was a huge success in the box-office. In its U.S. and Canada premiere weekend, it scored $26 million and in total grossing $2.788 billion in the box-office. "Avatar 2" is expected to repeat the success and Weaver praised the script and told about the filming schedule in a footage below:
