Benicio Del Toro's Character Will Not Appear in the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'
Benicio Del Toro played as the Collector, one of the Elders of the Universe in the first movie. However, his character will not appear in the sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and director James Gunn explained the reason why.
Gunn explained in his Facebook Stream as reported by Comic Book that he thought the Collector does not suit the story of the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." The Collector Taneleer Tivan, a character played by Del Toro in the first movie, is one of the Elders of the Universe, the rare people with unique superpower and certain obsession.
“I just talked to Benicio a couple weeks ago. He's a great actor, a great guy." Gunn said. He later explained that the Collector is not suitable to be in the story of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" because it has only a small number of characters. Therefore, "The Collector wasn't right for the story of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2."
The 46-year-old filmmaker admitted that he had more freedom to express his view in the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," as reported by Variety. Speaking at the Writers Guild Festival on March 25, he expressed his excitement with the sequel. He later explained that in the sequel he will explore the characters more detail, because he could not do it in the first movie.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will focus more on the main characters Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill and his team that called themselves Guardians of the Galaxy. They are Gamora, Dax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket. Other characters that will become the focus of the story are the leader of Ravagers Yondu, the new member of the Guardians Mantis, and Nebula.
Those characters are the main focus of the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Therefore, the Collector who resides in Knowhere will not suit story in the sequel as the first movie. Watch the character of the Collector portrayed by Del Toro in the first movie from Marvel Entertainment below:
