'Stranger Things' Season 2 Premiere: Netflix Hit's Composers Assures Fans Will Spend More Time with the Upside Down
With the “Stranger Things” season 2 hitting the small screen in October, the hit show’s composers have not only opened up about the upcoming music for the series. They also shared what fans could expect from the Upside Down.
The first “Stranger Things” season 2 trailer had been previously released on Super Bowl Sunday, revealing an official premiere this Halloween 2017. The clip featured bizarre creatures crawling out of the Upside Down, bringing n nightmares for Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). In the first season’s final episode, the kid appeared to be going through traumatic stress after having to be stuck in the Upside Down for quite a while.
This time, NY Daily News reported that composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who have worked on the music for “Stranger Things” season 2, have dropped several details about the Upside Down. As seen in the previous season, Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) had to go through this creepy and isolated wasteland to find Will. Since then, there have been a wide range of questions about the Demogorgon’s eerie home.
In an interview with Ars Technica, Stein and Dixon opened up about making music for “Stranger Things” season 2 with the Upside Down in mind. “The Upside Down is weird and experimental, and we approached it with something like the ‘Alien’ soundtrack, but this music focused on the monster,” he said.
The finale of the previous season also showed Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) as she triumphs over the Demogorgon and sends it back to the Upside Down. Even Hopper goes back to the woods to drop off Eleven’s food despite fans thinking that the character has gone. “Stranger Things” season 2 is then expected to clarify these confusing incidents, possibly including a deeper look at the barren land that is the Upside Down.
“There are new characters, fun, and the Upside Down will be more of a place — you’ll spend more time [there]. So we’ll make a lot more weird music this time around,” Dixon added. The “Stranger Things” season 2 premiere has been set on Oct. 31, 2017.
