Amy Schumer Quits Being ‘Barbie’, Sony Looks For New Face
Amy Schumer quits "Barbie." The actress confirmed opting out of the movie, saying there are some issues with dates and scheduling.
It has been more than three months since Sony announced Amy Schumer as the Barbie in its new live-action comedy flick. However, the changes in the plans have been revealed. The actress released a statement in which she revealed her final decision.
"Sadly, I'm no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts," the statement by Amy Schumer read. "The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I'm bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen."
While Amy Schumer has dropped out of the movie, Sony has started its hunt for the new role. It is expected that the production house will reveal the new Barbie's face soon. A spokesperson from Sony confirmed the news and said that the unit had no hard feelings for the comedian.
The production house said that they respected the decision of the actor and supported her. "We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and filmmakers soon," Sony added in its statement.
The shooting for the movie is expected to start in June while it has been scheduled for release in summer 2018, E News reported. When Amy Schumer was finalized for the movie, she had to face huge criticisms from "Barbie" fans. She received negative comments on her physique because of a not-so-slim figure. However, the actress handled the criticism bravely and responded to the critics.
Amy Schumer said that when she looked in the mirror, she knew her nature. She was great in maintaining her relationship with family and peers. She said that she was of those one who made great headlines for her comedy all across the globe.
While she thanked fans for support, she expressed "my deepest sympathy" to the online trolls of body shamming online. "I want to thank them for making it so evident that I am a great choice [to play Barbie]," Amy Schumer said as quoted by 9News.
