Nicki Minaj Breaks Aretha Franklin Record For The Most Billboard Hot 100 Hits
Singer and rapper Nicki Minas surpassed the "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin as the female singer who scored the most hits in the Billboard Hot 100. Miss Franklin records have been standing for almost 40 years.
This month, according to Billboard, Minaj latest three singles have made a new record with 76 hits songs in the Billboard Hot 100, exceeding the previous 73 record by miss Franklin. Her three singles are "No Frauds," featuring Drake and Lil Wayne ranked 14th, followed by "Regret in Your Tears" in 61st and her collaboration with Lil Wayne "Changed It" in 71st position.
Franklin's record stood since June 18, 1977, with "Break It To Me Gently." She passed Connie Francis' records, as the song became her 54th hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Miss Franklin continued to make 19 more hits singles until she reached 73 hits on the list.
Minaj matched Franklin's record on March 18, when her collaboration with rapper Gucci Mane "Make Love" made its debut on Billboard Hot 100. A week later, she broke Franklin record with three singles consecutively.
The 34-year-old singer took to social media to celebrate her success as reported by Us Weekly. She posted to Instagram a celebratory message.
Born as Onika Tanya Maraj, but her manager Fendi changed it to Minaj in 2007 when she started her solo career after quitting from her group The Hoodstar after three years. She released two mixtapes showcasing her rap style that earned her to be awarded as Female Artist of the Year at the 2008 Underground Music Awards
She rose to fame afterward and working with many top musicians including Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Trina and Robin Thicke. She made her first commercial success in 2010 with her debut album "Massive Attack." From then on, she became unstoppable and making hits after hits.
