A-List Celebs Join ACLU Telethon: Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler on Facebook Live Event
Several celebrities have confirmed their participation in the American Civil Liberties Union a.k.a. ACLU Telethon. The latest notable names that have been added to the list include Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey.
The ACLU Telethon will stream on Facebook Live on March 31. The celebrities will participate in the "Stand for Tights: A Benefit for the ACLU" telethon to raise funds for the advocacy organization. This will increase awareness of the entity that is concerned with defending the rights of the common people across the nation.
The protection of rights of the people also includes the challenges faced by the public because of political agendas raised in the system. This also includes the latest immigration ban imposed by US President Donald Trump that restricted people from seven Muslim-dominant nations from entering the nation.
"Our work in the courts is essential right now to hold off the worst of the abuses," ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero said as quoted by Variety. "But it is also the collective will and tireless actions of 'we the people' that serve as a bulwark against unconstitutional and wrong-headed policies and executive orders. By supporting our work through this telethon, we can fight even harder to defend the rights guaranteed by our Constitution."
ACLU Telethon for Stand for Rights will reportedly be attended by several A-listed celebrities. Some of them include Tracy Morgan, Tituss Burgess, Jon Hamm, Josh Charles, Zosia Mamet, Padma Lakshmi, Uzo Aduba, Jane Krakowski, Ike Barinholtz to name a few. It is expected that some more names will be added to the list in the coming days ahead of the live streaming of the telethon, Entertainment Weekly stated.
Friend of a Friend Productions will produce the ACLU Telethon in collaboration with The Huffington Post, Maggie Vision and Funny or Die. It is being reported that Funny or Die original videos will premier throughout the event.
