'The Crown' Season 2 Spoilers: Series Will Focus On Affairs Of Prince Philip And Troubled Marriage In Royal Family
The latest installment of "The Crown" promises fans more intriguing behind the scenes tales of the popular British Royal family. Creators have hinted that Season 2 will revolve around the darker nature of Queen Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip.
"The Crown" which first aired in November 2016, has garnered quite a following with Season 3 and Season 4 storylines already in the pipeline, the Daily Mail reported. Creator of the series Peter Morgan told the publication during an interview that Prince Philip's indiscretions were a commonly accepted matter in Britain.
The leading characters of "The Crown" include Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth and Matt Smith who plays the blunt and at times insensitive Duke of Edinburgh. Season 2 will recount tales and events which transpired in the Queen's life during the period 1956 - 1964.
"The Crown" according to reports will feature this period as the beginning of Prince Philip's infidelity. Claims of adulterous affairs with showgirls and TV personalities were reported to be common place at the time. Such claims have linked Prince Philip with British actress Pat Kirkwood and TV presenter Katie Boyle.
One rumor that "The Crown" may look to portray in this latest series involves the Duke of Edinburgh taking a mystery lady aboard the royal yacht Britannia during a tour. According to reports the rumor was denied and while no evidence has surfaced, it has plagued the family for years.
Morgan - the brains behind "The Crown" hinted that the series could lead into the 20th century, Vanity Fair reported. However, he also suggested that a recasting for future episodes would be necessary in order for the cast to portray the aging members of the royal family.
"The Crown" capitalizing on the popularity of period dramas created by "Downton Abbey" has incurred more than $100 million on the making of the show, the Independent reported. Furthermore, the publication noted that the investment has made the series the most expensive to date. The show will air in Nov.
