Not only is the original series' intriguing and relatable, the show is also being produced by the "Kill Em With Kindness" singer. So out of all the shows to choose from, why this? Justin Bieber's ex explained real reason.
"13 Reasons Why" tackles real-life issues like teen bullying and the pressures of social media. These problems happen to a lot of people, especially to teenagers, and Selena Gomez feels that she just needed to be a part of this project. The star has been expanding her brand, and this new gig will definitely be another success to be added under her belt.
Selena Gomez is taking the executive producer role in the series adaptation of the young adult novel, "13 Reason Why," taking viewers inside the lives of people who dealt with difficult hardships. During a press interview for the Netflix original series, The Weeknd's girlfriend opened up about facing her own struggles when they started production, roughly around the time that she spent three months in a rehab facility last August.
"I actually was going through a really difficult time when they started production [for '13 Reasons Why']," Selena Gomez shared. Since then, the 24-year-old actress and singer began slowly stepping back into the spotlight, but revealed that social media is very much to blame for its portrayal of people's lives.
"I can't stand social media, I can't stand what they're looking at, I can't stand what they think is reality," the star admitted. "The show [13 Reasons Why] is as real as it possibly could get." Not only has she produced an entire series, but Selena Gomez is also helping millions of people by helping them to share their own personal stories further proving that not all heroes wear capes.
