'American Gods' Air Date, Spoilers: New Trailer Offers Glimpse At Mr. Wednesday Origin Story [VIDEO]
"American Gods" finally has an air date, and it looks like the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's classic novel is set for greatness. Although the Starz show will revolve around Ricky Whittle's Shadow Moon, the different deities will prove to be the coolest characters in the highly anticipated series. The new trailer might not have plenty of new footage, but there are several hints to Mr. Wednesday's origin story.
Mr. Wednesday is undoubtedly one of the most important characters in Neil Gaiman's book, and the same is expected in the "American Gods" series. After all, Ian McShane will portray the deity who later enlists Shadow Moon as his personal bodyguard. But how exactly did Mr. Wednesday come to be? The new teaser may have revealed the deity's backstory.
Starz has just debuted a new "American Gods" trailer, where the bloody aspects of the series are highlighted, as per io9. The god Czernobog is shown stroking his blood-covered hammer and there are also several shots of Vikings fighting on a beach. Although Peter Stormare's deity is one of the most terrifying features in the YouTube teaser, fans immediately zoned in on the Vikings beating each other up. There are speculations that these scenes will be part of a flashback involving Mr. Wednesday, who is based on the Norse god of war (and All-Father) Odin.
But how exactly will all the carnage be connected to Mr. Wednesday? The Vikings could invoke Odin for safe passage into new territory. The best way to do so would be to shed blood and start a war in order to get into his good side. There is little doubt that the Vikings' bloodshed is only the start for "American Gods".
Ian McShane is not the only big name in the series. The show also features Emily Browning, Orlando Jones, Crispin Glover and Gillian Anderson, as per Variety. "American Gods" will premiere on Starz on April 30.
