Zac Posen Explains Why He Refuses to Make Creations for Melania and Ivanka Trump's Fashion Closets
While Zac Posen made creations for First Lady Melanie Trump and Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump in the past, the fashion designer said he does not intend to dress them again. While he contributed to Melania and Ivanka’s fashion style, Posen has been deeply affected by the current state of affairs.
In his statement to The Daily Beast, Zac Posen said he has “no current plans to dress members of the first family.” When asked to explain why he refuses to offer creations to add to Melania and Ivanka’s fashion closet, the 36-year-old designer said he is avoiding to incorporate politics into his brand.
Aside from Melania and Ivanka’s fashion decisions, Zac Posen also touched on the subjects that he has been questioning since President Donald Trump assumed office; these include immigration, LGBT rights, Planned Parenthood, women’s rights and even fund allocations for the arts. “These are just issues that are very close to my heart, and I use my own private voice and funds to fight them and in support of them,” the couture designer added. “I think it’s important to use your voice. I think that every brand and person has a right to be vocal.”
Nonetheless, according to Fox News, Zac Posen remains optimistic about the future. As he believes in freedom, he also does not dictate who his brand’s customers should be. In light of upping Melania and Ivanka’s fashion statements, Posen thinks the fashion industry should take more caution in advocating for certain issues.
Although Zac Posen aims to have powerful women representing his clothes, it is also essential that he supports the message that such women bring. In Melania and Ivanka’s fashion case, the American designer has stood his ground that he does not agree with the Trumps’ approach to today’s issues. "It’s important that I support the amazing women that I’m able to work with. It’s a message about creativity and process,” he said. “And being able to self-create is the message I want to share to the generation of young people being born now.”
Zac Posen has also gained fame for making creations for former First Lady Michelle Obama. He has also dressed many celebrities, such as Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian-West. Posen is not the only fashion designer to have refused Melania and Ivanka’s fashion invitations. Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam and Christian Siriano are among those who have expressed their disapproval over the Trumps and have openly refused to dress them.
