‘Veep’ Season 6 News Update: Julia Louise-Dreyfus Does Not Want Trump Stuff On Show
"Veep" Season 6 will make its much-anticipated return on April 16. And the cast members assure that there will be plenty of things to look forward to in the new season.
Among the few things that fans will have to take note of is that "Veep" Season 6 will not be focused on U.S. President Donald Trump, of which lead star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is pleased about. "I don't want to do Trump stuff," she admits. Furthermore, newly-recruited writer-producer David Mandel revealed that the 10-episode season was written at the height of polls and surveys hinting at a Clinton victory.
"All of the [sixth] season was basically written and put together - we filmed it in October - but a lot that writing and what we were doing with the story came basically last June," he said, according to Esquire. Regardless of the outcome of the 2016 U.S. Elections, Mandel asserted that this is what they had wanted to do for "Veep" Season 6.
The cast members of "Veep" Season 6 dropped by the SXSW Convention 2017 on Monday at Ballroom D in the Austin Convention Center in Texas to discuss what fans can expect in the new season after the dramatic loss of Selina Meyers at the conclusion of the fifth season. Joining Louis-Dreyfus and Mandel for the event were fellow cast members Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, Sam Richardson, Anna Chlumsky and Gary Cole.
Mandel revealed some additional details about what will be in store in "Veep" Season 6, especially in a post-Meyers presidency, encouraging fans to keep their eyes on former U.S. President Barack Obama. "As you see him sign his book deal, don't be surprised if Selina [Meyer] signs a book deal - though probably for not so much money," he said, according to Deadline.
Mandel added that all former presidents will be out there in the "Veep" Season 6 universe caught up in their own endeavors. These topics, he says, will manifest one way or another as the show goes on. Watch the trailer for the new season below:
