Director George Miller Tired of Making Another 'Mad Max' Movie After 'Fury Road' Troubles

Director George Miller bids goodbye to the "Mad Max" saga. It seems that the "Fury Road" will be the last for him, regardless of whether the movie may win the Oscars glory.

Even if "Mad Max: Fury Road" was announced the best-reviewed film of 2015 by Rotten Tomatoes, this is not enough for director Miller to want to make more "Mad Max" movies. He explained that his decision came after the difficulties he encountered producing "Fury Road."

At the Golden Globes, Miller shared to Page Six that doing a "Mad Max" can take such a long time that he cannot imagine doing another. "I won't make more Mad Max movies," he said. "I've shot in Australia in a field of wildflowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those Mad Maxes take forever. I won't do those any more."

Interestingly, prior to his interview with Page Six, he told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that a spinoff will be a good idea. He said that since Theron's Furiosa was such a "compelling" character, it will be nice to have a spinoff revolving around her. If a spinoff is to happen, it seems that other filmmakers will have to do it.

The director recently divulged that he was surprised that "Fury Road" actually did so well. The 70-year-old Australian filmmaker shared to The Wall Street Journal that anyone will be talking about "Mad Max." His last "Mad Max" film was still back in 1985. On the same interview, he gave his reasons why Tom Hardy make the perfect "Mad Max," which originally was Mel Gibson. For him, both Hardy and Gibson have the common quality of being both charismatic and mysterious at the same time. For the director, both actors have great acting chops and yet both very unpredictable.
