Sunday night, the winning actors and actresses were revealed for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. "The Revenant" lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio picked up his acting honours for the Best Actor for Motion Picture, Drama category, and Jennifer Lawrence was recognized for the second time with the Best Actress for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy title, in her role as the maker of Miracle Mop in the film "Joy."

The Golden Globes surprised everyone with the list of winners containing mostly new faces, plus the comic relief in the name of Ricky Gervais as the night's emcee. Just like any other awards night, the event was filled with jittering hopes kept well hidden behind made-up faces and elegant smiles.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu won as Best Director for "The Revenant," a film about a fur trapper who is keen to get justice in a shoot that resulted to budget overruns and crew defections. "The Revenant" lead Leonardo DiCaprio gave a politically charged speech that calls for the greater appreciation of the community of Native Americans. Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, got the best supporting actor recognition for his role in "Creed."

Jennifer Lawrence was recognized for the second time and nabbed the Best Actress for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category. This is the third JLaw's work with movie director David O. Russell. The two seem to have formed a bond, which the actress affirmed by saying that she wants both of them to be buried alongside each other, someday.

Brie Larson, on the other hand, took home the Best Actress for Motion Picture, Drama, in "Room." Matt Damon got the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy award for his role as a stranded astronaut on Mars in the movie "The Martian," beating Mark Ruffalo, Christian Bale and Steve Carell. Damon's last Golden Globe award was for writing the film "Good Will Hunting," which is already 18 years ago, Entertainment Weekly pointed out.

The Supporting Actress Award was clinched by Kate Winslet for portraying the role of an assistant to Apple founder Steve Jobs in the film "Steve Jobs." According to Variety, Winslet actually booked for a body massage after the show because the actress was certain she would lose. This was obvious through her inexplicably raw, shocked face upon hearing her name. Her speech showed disbelief as well, but then she noted that "it is an incredible year for the women in the movie."
