Descent Underground's Kickstarter Campaign Rakes in Targeted $600,000 Funding
Descent Studio's Kickstarter campaign to reboot Descent Underground, the classic 1990s 3D shooter video game, is now pass the $600,000 target. As of April 10, a total of $601,773 in pledged donations have been tallied from some 8,164 backers at the start-up company's Kickstarter page. But those who want to continue contributing to for the revival of the game can still forward their pledges directly to the Descent Studios' homepage where the total amount raised now stands at $604,143.
"Now the real work begins! We're diving directly into a fast, tight production cycle (after a much-needed weekend of rest), and moving ahead with building this awesome game," said the game developer. "Of course, you will all be along for the ride every step of the way. If you made it too late and didn't get a chance to back the Kickstarter, don't fear: we're moving the fundraising to our web site, with all of the base packages, add-ons, and maybe some new stuff, too. We're also going to continue to push towards the stretch goals with the pledges raised on our store. That means you can still get your Torch KS! The free Torch KS applies to all game packages - including add-ons - when our total funding hits $650K! Thank you, thank you, thank you a thousand times!"
According to the Kickstarter FAQ page, the developers plan to target the game at all of the non-mobile platforms supported by Unreal Engine 4, which means Windows, OS X, and Linux. For now, no console versions of the game is being planned. Descendent Studios also plans to add a robust single-player campaign and user-created content, with revenue sharing for successful creators, but the initial game will not contain every aspect on company founder Eric Peterson's production list. The Kickstarter campaign promises an introductory single-player mission, cooperative play and multiplayer modes, with a variety of ships and maps. After that, the full Descent: Underground will essentially be released in phases according to End Gadget.
