Jaden Smith Wears a Dress!
Jaden Smith stepped out in his native Calabasas, Calif., on Thursday, April 9, wearing a dress, which he later joked about via social media.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's fashion-forward son, 16, presented an androgynous look on Thursday, wearing a fringed black and white sweater and black skirt over a pair of denim shorts. The Hollywood scion accessorized his outfit with leopard printed socks, and black Nike sneakers.
Before the photos were even published online on Thursday, Smith joked about his latest sartorial experiment.
According to US weekly, it turned out that Willow's big brother alluded to dress shopping this past Tuesday, April 7, when he shared a selfie of his striped dress over a pair of sweatpants. "Went To TopShop To Buy Some Girl Clothes," Smith wrote. "I Mean 'Clothes.'"
While the aspiring musician is known for his bold style choices, he also possesses a "poor person's mentality," his famous, Philly-raised dad told Esquire.
"Jaden, my 16-year-old, he has one pair of shoes," the Independence Day hunk told the mag. "He has three pairs of pants and he has five shirts. He has refused to be a slave to money. I so respect that...It's such an interesting thing to watch, because I came from a middle-class background...our lights and gas would be cut off from not paying the bill...And he's from the complete other end of the spectrum. And it's so interesting to me that from growing up in that space, he could see the need for things in a way that he's rejecting."
And while Jaden may be called out for his latest style choice, Will proudly noted that both his teens can handle the scrutiny. "They're really well-adjusted around this business and understanding the nature of having to take a battering," Smith said. "And Jaden understands that that's a part of this business. If he wants to do it, there's a certain amount of battery that you have to be willing to live through."
