‘The Muppets’ Are Coming Back, Show to Be Penned by ‘Big Bang Theory’ Co-Creator
The ultimate show reboot is here! The Muppets are coming back to the small screen and nostalgia could not get any better. ABC has greenlighted a reboot of The Muppet Show, tentatively titled as Muppets 2015, wherein the co-creator of The Big Bang Theory, Bill Prady will be the producing and co-writing the show with Bob Kushell, Entertainment Weekly reports. Kushell is known for his works such as Anger Management, American Dad and The Simpsons. They will be joined by Randall Einhorn, who will also executive produce and will serve as a director for the pilot presentation.
So far, TheWrap reports that the project will be a behind-the-scenes type of comedy where it will be involving well-loved, classic Muppet characters such as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo. The show's proof of concept will be filmed by next week.
The original Muppet Show, created by Jim Henson, ran from 1976 to 1981 where it was first revived in 1996 in ABC's Muppets Tonight however it only lasted only ten episodes.
Prady is reported to have a history with the Muppets having written for them and for other related shows such as The Jim Henson Hour and Muppet Classic Theater. This will also serve as the second time Prady tried to revive The Muppets.
According to a log line from TVLine, talks are still in works about this exciting reboot wherein People quotes, "The Muppets excitedly gather at ABC for a meeting about the new Muppet Show. However, the show will not move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on." In an interesting note, Hollywood Reporter writes that there have been plans for celebrity cameos and for new roles such as Fozzie's girlfriend and her parents.
