"See You Again," Wiz Khalifa's Touching Tribute to Paul Walker
Cameron Jibril Thomaz, 27, better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, has made a touching tribute to Paul Walker via a new music video for his song "See you Again" which he debuted Sunday, showing a montage of the late actor from all of the seven Fast and the Furious movies from the past fourteen years.
Charlie Puth, 23, the You Tube pop singing sensation, who sang the vocals on the Wiz Khalifa track, originally posted the video on his Twitter page. "7 million hits in 2 hours. i know you are watching down on all of us paul, the whole world is thinking of you," he also tweeted.
The music video features scenes of Khalifa and Puth performing in front of muscle cars like those used in the Fast and Furious franchise along with scenes of Walker and his co-stars from the series.
"See you Again" which is included in the Furious 7 original motion picture soundtrack was written by Puth and DJ Frank E and performed by Puth with Khalifa. It debuted at No. 29 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and No. 9 on the Rap Digital Songs chart selling 25,000 copies. It also topped the iTunes all-genre single sales chart according to Headline Planet. "Real-time trending data suggests it is currently selling at least 1.2x as quickly as Mark Ronson's #2 "Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)," and that differential is expected to rise as more people see the film [Furious 7] and buzz over the song grows," the music news site added.
Khalifa performed the "See You Again" live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 17. He will again perform the song on this Wednesday's The Voice results show.
Walker's co-star Vin Diesel also shared the song on his Facebook page on Sunday. "Pablo, this weekend you turned the world into a family... Thanks for the love," he captioned the post. Twenty hours later, it had been viewed more than 28 million times.
Mike Knobloch, Universal Pictures' president of music told Billboard: "I think it's only resonating because it feels genuine. This was a moment that was so important to get right -- there's always high stakes, but this was in a class of its own."
