Netflix has given the green-light for the production of Montauk, a 1980s drama series written and to be directed by young filmmakers Matt and Ross Duffer who will also executive produce the project with Shawn Levy. The streaming service has ordered eight hour-long episodes set to premiere in 2016.

According to the network's description, in the series, which is set in 1980 Montauk, Long Island, a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl. Montauk is a love letter to the 80s classics that captivated a generation.

Regarding the show's creators, Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, said: "Matt and Ross are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense. Their unique voice infuses this coming of age drama with supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience."

The twin brothers in late 2011 and fresh out of college sold their horror-thriller spec script Hidden to Warner Bros. They also directed the still-to-be-released film which stars Alexander Skarsgård and which was the last movie Richard D. Zanuck produced before his death on July 13, 2012.

In related news, Netflix has also ordered a four-episode series of the half-hour sketch show dubbed With Bob And David from Bob Odenkirk and David Cross along with an hour-long "making of" documentary prequel. The official description of  With Bob And David reads: "After being dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, Bob and David are back serving our country the way they do best, making sketch comedy. Four half-hours of brand new comedy featuring all new characters, all new scenes, and most importantly, all new wigs." Cross and Odenkirk will write and star in the show as well as executive produce with Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.
