Warner Bros' Central Intelligence, a buddy comedy from director Rawson Marshall Thurber which stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Kevin Hart, will open in theaters on June 17, 2016. On the other hand, the Shane Black-directed detective thriller The Nice Guys headlined by Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, which was originally scheduled for the June 17, 2016, showing will instead be moved a month earlier to screen in cinemas on May 20, 2016.

Central Intelligence begins with a high school class reunion approaching, as a former high school sports star turned mild-mannered accountant (Hart) is contacted through Facebook by a classmate (Johnson) who was bullied and humiliated back in the day. The "loser" that the accountant remembers is now a CIA contract killer who ropes him into helping foil a plot to sell classified military secrets. Thurber will be directing from his own re-write of the scripts previously drafted by Sean Anders and John Morris along with Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen. The project will be produced by Scott Stuber through his Bluegrass Films banner, along with Peter Principato and Paul Young of Principato-Young Entertainment. Ed Helms, who will co-star with Johnson and Hart, will also serve as executive producer.

The Nice Guys, a crime mystery set in Los Angeles during the 1970s, follows a private eye (Gosling) and a hired leg breaker (Crowe) who must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a fading porn star. In the course of their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy. Also co-starring with Gosling and Crowe is Kim Basinger who will play a chief justice with dubious interests. The project is being produced by Joel Silver under his Silver Pictures banner with Ken Kao of Waypoint Entertainment. Serving as executive producers are Hal Sadoff and Michael Malone.
