Yahoo Users Can Discard Passwords; Debate Over Security Continues

Email security has been a top issue with email hacks and forges. In this regard, most emails have started to require phone verification. Yahoo has taken a step ahead, it claims, in improving the security of the email accounts by giving them the option of discarding passwords altogether.

On Sunday, Yahoo declared that users in the US can opt for the company to text them a new password every time they long into their account. In this way, users don't have to remember passwords as well as others cannot log into their account. In order to back-up the account, in case the user does not have his phone, an email account on a website other than Yahoo is used.

This raised a lot of concern with security experts who worried about the validity of such security. If a user has their phone stolen, their Yahoo account could quickly get stolen too. They preferred another feature of Yahoo that requires a user to enter their assigned password as well as another password verified through phone.

Using text messages for allowing users to log into their account might be an innovative idea, but it has open risks that everyone might not be ready to take. Double validation is a securer option but it would be too lengthy a procedure to follow for every log in. In addition, you would be heavily dependent on another email address to run your Yahoo, and that is very inconvenient.

Yahoo, however, backed its innovation. It says that people forget passwords often. In addition they do not care to change them regularly, so the new idea could be a step forward in ensuring email security.
