Nickelodeon Under Fire for Showing a Picture of a Topless Woman on a Nicktoon Episode of Oggy and the Cockroaches
Nickelodeon just made itself a subject for heated debate on the social media when parents got wind of an episode of Oggy and the Cockroaches, which aired March 5 in the US on the children channel NickToon, that showed a scene with framed picture of a sexy anthopomorphic duck in a pair of tiny bikini briefs, huge sunglasses, big hair, and with exposed inordinately large boobs with protruding swollen nipples hanging on the wall.
One parent whose 8-year-old spotted the picture of the topless lady cartoon duck told TMZ he was forced to have a talk with the child about the female anatomy. On the other hand, according to the Daily Mail, a certain Megan Mayhew wrote on Facebook: "Ok so it's ok for women to breastfeed in public but a cartoon of boobs is horrible. If an eight year old has never noticed women have boobs then I'm glad his dad had a talk with him. Stop making the naked body so taboo." Another social media user named Selina Fraley observed: "Wait so the father was concerned about the boobs in the background but not the filth that his kids was watching. I mean, the characters were poisoning each other and lit each other on fire! But you're worried about cartoon breasts that get your priorities straight."
In any event, Nickelodeon has voluntarily taken down the offending episode of the cartoon series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network released a statement saying: "The scene, which comes from an international acquisition, was unfortunately overlooked in the screening process. We have pulled the episode from our air and online."
