‘Revenge of the Nerds’ Star Robert Carradine, Wife Survive Head-on Traffic Collision Accident
Robert Carradine and his wife Edith were seriously injured in a head-on collision with a semi-truck on Colorado Highway 145 east of Dolores Thursday of last week according to local paper The Cortez Journal. As gathered from Colorado State Patrol's Sgt. James Saunders, "He was northbound on Highway 145 and drove right into the oncoming lane. There were no apparent contributing factors."
Both the actor and his wife were wearing seatbelts, and neither speed nor alcohol or drug intoxication was a factor in the crash according to the state patrol. They were transported to the nearby Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, both with serious but non-life threatening injuries. They were later transferred to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. "The fact that they were wearing seatbelts is why they are with us today," Saunders told reporters.
The section of the highway where the crash occurred is a straightaway and was dry at the time. The driver of the semi-truck was identified as Richard Clayton of Wisconsin. According to the police report, Carradine's 2003 Mercury Marauder crossed the dividing line and slammed into the semi-truck driving in the opposite direction. Both vehicles were estimated to be traveling at sixty miles per hour. Carradine was reportedly issued a citation for careless driving on a lane violation.
The current medical status of Carradine and his wife is still unclear as of to date.
Carradine, 60, comes from a family of actors which include his father John Carradine, his brothers Keith and David, and his mother Sonia Sorel. He is the father of actress Ever Carradine and the uncle of Martha Plimpton. He is best known for his leading role as Lewis Skolnick in the cult classic Revenge of the Nerds films during the 1980s and for hosting the hit game TV show King of the Nerds on TBS.
