Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett Adopts a Baby Girl!
Oscar winner Cate Blanchett revealed that she and husband Andrew Upton had adopted a baby girl and the couple named her as Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, as confirmed by US weekly.
Blanchett, 45, and playwright-director Upton, 49, wed in December 1997. The couple are already parents to three sons: Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, 6.
The Blue Jasmine star opened up about balancing work and motherhood with Times Online back in March 2010. "All I can think about is what I've gained," she said at the time. "I've had to say no to things because I was pregnant, but then I had a baby, so it didn't seem like a sacrifice. I'm quite fatalistic - if something doesn't happen, then something else will."
She added: "It has to work for my family, otherwise I can't do the job."
On the other hand, Blanchett will be seen in the big screen playing as Lady Tremaine in the live-action adaptation of Cinderella. The movie stars Lily James as Cinderella and will be directed by acclaimed director, Kenneth Branagh.
Aside from that, the Australian beauty will star in three upcoming movies, Carol with Rooney Mara, Truth with Robert Redford, and an Untitled Terence Malick project. The latter having an ensemble such as Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Val Kilmer and Benicio del Toro.
Going back to theater, Blanchett is expected to star alongside Richard Roxburgh in the Sydney production of The Present. It is a new play adaptation by Blanchett's husband Andrew Upton and will be directed by John Crowley. The play is inspired after Anton Chekov's Platonov and will run from August 4 - September 19 at the Sydney Theater Company.
