Allison Janney, 55, best known for her TV roles in the CBS sitcom series Mom and the Showtime period drama series Masters of Sex, is now part of the cast in 20th Century Fox's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, a film adaptation being directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay written by Jane Goldman based on Ransom Riggs' best-selling novel of the same name.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children tells the story of the 16-year-old Jacob Portman who in his quest to find out more about his grandfather stumbles upon derelict orphanage for 'peculiar children.' There he meets the 'strikingly pretty' Emma, a girl about his age who can control fire and who takes him on a travel back in time to 1940 to meet Miss Peregrine, the orphanage director, who lives with the other peculiar children in a 'time loop.' Jacob finds himself enjoying the company of the 'peculiar children, particularly Millard, who is invisible, and Bronwyn, who has incredible strength. In the pub, Jacob later hears stories of mysterious deaths in the region caused by 'hallogasts' or 'hallows,' the monsters that also killed his grandfather. Then, he learns that he too is 'peculiar' since only he can see and stop the monsters from the killings.

The confirmed cast of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children now includes Eva Green who stars as Miss Peregrine, Asa Butterfield as Jacob, Ella Purnell as Emma, Finlay MacMillan as Enoch, and Samuel L. Jacson as Barron. Janney's role in the film adaptation of the Riggs book will be that of Jacob's psychiatrist. Production is now ongoing and the film is announced for release to theaters on March 4, 2016.

Janney, a six-time Primetime Emmy Award winner for her work on TV and a two-time Tony Award nominee for her work on stage, also be seen in Paul Feig's Spy, due on June 5. She is also a voice actor for the upcoming Despicable Me spin-off, Minions, which will be released on June 26.
