‘Krampus’: Casting Announcements for Universal/Legendary's next Christmas' Comedy-Horror Film
Krampus, the second feature film from Michael Dougherty, creator of the now contemporary Halloween staple Trick 'r Treat, has been set by Universal/Legendary for release to theaters beginning December 4, 2015. Writen by Dougherty with Todd Casey and Zach Shields, Krampus is a twisted horror comedy set during the Yuletide holidays that is based on the ancient legend of a pagan demon who punishes the wicked. Produced by Legendary's Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Alex Garcia, the film stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Emjay Anthony, and Allison Tollman.
Adam Scott, 41, is best known for his role as Ben Wyatt in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Toni Collette, 42, is a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner for her role in Showtime's comedy-drama series United States of Tara. In the upcoming film, Scott and Colette will be seen playing a married couple who will have had their daughter taken, apparently by Krampus. David Koechner, 52, best remembered for his role as Todd Packer in NBC's The Office, plays the part of another father whose own child has also gone missing.
Allison Tolman, 33, who played police officer Molly Solverson in the 2014 TV series Fargo and Emjay Anthony, 11, who portrayed Jon Favreau's son in Chef are the mother and son in a family that is under the demon's attack. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony's character is essentially the lead of the movie since it will be him who will be seen stepping up to save the proverbial day.
Incidentally, Dougherty's film would be the second Krampus-based Christmas horror movie to move forward in development. The other one, Kevin Smith's Anti-Claus, is also in the works, and will star Justin Long, Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez. Like Dougherty's Krampus, it will feature the centuries-old, devil-like creature, the so-called 'Anti-Claus,' known to appear during the Yuletide season to eat naughty children.
