‘Doubt’: CBS Pilot Legal Procedural Drama Cast Announced; Former ‘Private Practice’ Actress Gets Leading Role
KaDee Strickland, 39, best known for her portrayal of hospital chief of staff Charlotte King in Shonda Rhimes' long-running medical drama on ABC, Private Practice, is set to next play the lead role in Doubt, an hour-long pilot from Timberman/Beverly and CBS TV Studios according to Deadline.
Strickland has been cast as Sadie, described by the network as "a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets involved romantically with one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime." She will be joining Elliott Gould, Laverne Cox, Dule Hill and Kobi Libii who have earlier been confirmed to be in the Doubt cast.
Gould, 76, known for his TV roles in Friends, Ray Donovan, E/R, among others, and in movies like Ocean's Eleven and its sequels, is playing the head of the boutique law firm where Sadie works. Cox, 30, who is seen in Netflix's Orange is the New Black in her role as Sophia Burset, is cast as Cameron Wirth, a "competitive and compassionate transgender Ivy League-educated attorney." Hill, 39, best remembered by fans as Gus Guster on the comedy series Psyche, plays Albert, "a law partner and friend of Sadie." Libii of Alpha House fame plays Nick, "a smart, ambitious and enterprising recent law school graduate who is determined to work with the best criminal defense attorney in New York."
The hour-long pilot for Doubt is written and developed for the network by longtime Grey's Anatomy executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, and directed by Adam Bernstein.
Aside from CBS' Doubt, Strickland will also be seen in ABC's 10-episode crime drama series Secrets and Lies in her role as Christy Crawford. The show, based on an Australian series of the same name, follows the story of a family man who discovers the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime suspect in his death. He then goes in search of the real killer in order to clear his name. Secrets and Lies premiered on March 1.
