Nicole Scherzinger Buries Herself in Work Following Split from Long-Time Boyfriend Lewis Hamilton; Spends Time in Manila with UNICEF Charity Mission for Poverty-Stricken Children
Nicole Scherzinger and her long-time steady boyfriend, two-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, early this month, have again split up, the fourth time since they began their relationship back in 2007. While mending her broken heart, the former Pussycat Doll is burying herself in work, including charity work. Since Friday, she was in Manila, the Philippine capital, as part of a UNICEF mission to help impoverished families.
Nicole was reportedly spotted Friday at the Baseco Compound in Tondo, one of the most poverty-stricken area in the country. While she went under the radar of the Philippine press that day, she did posted Instagram pics of herself later bonding with the Filipino children as part of the UNICEF's awareness campaign. She captioned one: "I'm in the #Philippines with @Unicef_UK seeing how they support vulnerable children. I'm in love with the kids I've met, so special each one of them! #educate #awareness #proud2bpinay."
Nicole herself is partly Filipino. Her biological father, Alfonso Valiente, came to Hawaii from the Philippines. According to Daily Mail, she told UNICEF: "I'm part Filipina so I have a strong connection with the country and feel I have a responsibility to do what I can and bring awareness to the dangers that Filipino children face everyday. It's been so humbling to meet incredible, inspiring Filipino children who are living in really tough conditions. Simple things like going to school and learning about their rights is so important, not only in terms of changing their lives but it also keeps them safe and off the streets. There are thousands of kids in Manila who are living in heartbreaking conditions but it's amazing to see how UNICEF and their partners are trying to do more to protect children in danger."
On Sunday, Nicole with some of her friends, including the Black Eyed Peas' apl.de.ap, who is also of Filipino descent, went on a sightseeing tour around Manila. In his social media account page, aple.de.ap wrote: "Had a dope time catchin' up with Nicole Scherzinger at the historic #Intramuros in Manila, thanks for the tour CARLOS CELDRAN!" Later that Sunday, Nicole treated her Filipino fans at the city's Chaos nightclub with a live performance during its first annual Valentine's Day Love Ball.
