Beyonce Reportedly Tells Husband Jay-Z, 'I Told You So,' Following Pal Kanye West's Latest Antics at the Grammy's
Beyonce has been warning Jay Z (Shawn Carter) that his friend and collaborator Kanye West is a threat to their carefully crafted public image according to the NY Daily News. And she was proven right when Kim Karashian's husband during and after Sunday's 57th Annual Grammy Awards show went on another one of his ill-conceived antics, making a spectacle of himself, but again at her expense.
At the February 8 show, Kanye jumped up to mock-intervene when Beck's name was announced, beating Beyonce for album of the year. Apparently, he was just making fun of the stunt he pulled at the 2009 MTV video awards when he grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift's hand after she also beat out Beyonce for an award. Still, later that night, E!Online quoted him as saying: "All I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. 'Flawless,' Beyonce video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce, and at this point, we tired of it."
Even NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in an editorial for the Time observed, "When West warns the Grammy people to 'stop playing with us,' one can't help but wonder if West's use of the words 'us and 'artistry' is code for black artistry.... Bottom line: West's comments defending Beyonce were a little racist because he implied that a black artist was being ignored in favor of a white non-artist." Others though were less subtle in their condemnation of West's latest foot-in-mouth predicament. Garbage's Shirley Manson tells him, "Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat."
An unnamed insider reportedly told NY Daily News that "Beyonce's pissed at Jay Z for allowing Kimye [Kim and Kanye] so close to them. Beyonce and her team have worked very hard to put out the exact image they want out there - it's super-controlled and managed and manicured. So for Kanye to jump up on stage without it being planned or part of a discussion is exactly the type of drama Beyonce did not want with Kim and Kanye and the tabloid lives they live... She's been dragged into a national spotlight over whether she is as artistic as Beck, and it's been pointed out all over the Web how many producers she has on her songs, and writers. It just sort of overexposed her for no reason and kind of diminished the pedestal she sits on. Jay is very loyal to Kanye, but it's the Kim and Kanye drama that Bey has always requested they avoid. This isn't a totally malicious or a big fight, more of an 'I told you so' from Bey to Jay."
