Apple's iOS 8.2 and Apple Watch Spring 2015 Release Expected
Apple's iOS 8.2, the next update to Apple's mobile operating system, will be ready by March, in time for the official launching of Apple Watch around April.
As observed by 9to5Mac from the iOS 8.2 beta 5 released Monday for testing, the iOS upgrade now adds support for the next-to-launch Apple Watch. Inside of the Bluetooth Settings menu is a new panel specifically for pairing an iPhone with the Apple Watch using a dedicated Apple Watch app, dubbed 'Companion,' for setting up and controlling the wearable device. The Companion app manages settings for Apple Watch applications, as well as settings for syncing iPhone/Watch interactivity.
Aside from the Companion app, iOS 8.2 addresses known bug issues with the Messages, Control Center, Maps, Music, Calendar, among other apps. It also reintroduces blood glucose tracking and adds new descriptions for various Health app features as well as provides the latest updates for the Security app.
Apple's CEO Tim Cook has stated during the company's latest earnings call that they plan to debut the wearable smart device in April. "Because you wear it, we invented new intimate ways to connect and communicate directly from your wrist," he said. The device has a built-in heart rate sensor and gyroscope, as well as haptic feedback. It can also determine the difference between a tap and a press, and features wireless, inductive charging. In terms of software, Siri makes the jump to the Apple Watch. It also supports Apple Pay, the company's new mobile payments service. Of course, once it ships out to the stores, it is expected to already be running on the new iOS 8.2.
There are three models in the Apple Watch to choose from: Apple Watch (regular), Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. There are also six types and styles of wrist bands, all interchangeable, including stainless steel and leather straps. In terms of price, the Apple Watches will start at $349.
