Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs. Sony Z3 Compact Tablet: Comprehensive Specs and Features Review

Tablet world attraction has been diverted partially on the phablet smartphones in recent days. But manufacturers are still contributing on the platform and the release of Sony Z3 Compact Tablet, iPad Mini 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook are the proof that tablet arena is still blazing with new arrivals. However, let's have a quick review on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 represents a 8.4-inch display that comes with 1600 x 2560 pixels resolution. The pixel density is very impressive with 2359 pixels per inch framed in a 8.4-inch display. The display type is the Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The Sony fans might have to sacrifice the display quality along with the screen size as the Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet is packed with 8.0-inch display size that contains 283 pixels per inch. The pixel resolution is limited to 1200 x 1920 pixels with TFT LCD type capacitive touchscreen display. The additional X-Reality Engine enhances the color quality a bit.

Both the tablets give a hard knock in terms of camera specification. They possess almost same type of camera sensor specification but the tech experts keeps the Sony Z3 Compact Tablet a step ahead in terms of picture quality and low light performance. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 features 8MP rear camera sensor along with 2.1MP front camera whereas the Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet is packed wit 8.1MP rear camera coupled with 2.2MP front camera sensor.

The hardware specification of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 comes in two variants S800 and S5420 model. The S800 model includes Snapdragon 800 chipset backed by Quad-Core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor. Other model S5420 is provided with Exynos chipset and Quad-Core 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 and Quad-Core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 processor. The GPU segment of S800 is slotted with Adreno 330 chip while the S5420 model contains Mali-T628MP6 emulator. Meanwhile the Sony Z3 Compact Tablet is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset powered by Quad-Core 2.5GHz Krait 400 processor. The GPU emulator is supported by Adreno 330 chip.

The storage capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 allows 16/32 GB of internal storage model whereas Sony Z3 tablet allows only 16GB model. For both of them the storage space is expandable to 128GB by additional microSD card slot. The RAM memory is backed with 3GB of RAM in both of them. Android 4.4.2 KitKat is the current operating system in both the devices where Sony has planned to introduce the Android 5.0 upgrade in the Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet.
