Neil Patrick Harris Lost Bet to Daughter for Oscar Noms; Talks about Grammy Nominations for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”
Neil Patrick Harris lost $20 to his daughter, Harper, over a bet on the best credit designer of a foreign language film.
"The Oscar nominations came out this morning, and that can only mean one thing," Harris, 41, admitted in an adorable video posted to his Twitter page on Thursday, Jan. 15. "I just lost $20. Here you go, Harper." On hand to take her dad's money, a gleeful 4-year-old Harper offered a polite 'thank you' and smile in return. Why the loss? "I had my money on you, Sven Yorgen Finster . . . [as] best credit designer of a foreign language film.'"
Harris will surely knock it out as the host of the upcoming Academy Awards. Although he lost the bet, he rebounded swiftly with the release of the new Oscar teaser, titled "Illusion with Neil Patrick Harris". The video shows Harris polishing up what appears to be a supersized Oscar statue while standing on a ladder ... only to reveal that there's more than meets the eye.
Harris no doubt has more tricks up his sleeve when he takes the stage to host the 2015 Oscars, which will air live on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.
In another news, the 41-year-old actor has played the part of "Hedwig" in the Broadway adaptation of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. "I thought that the content of the show and Hedwig's experience and the rawness of it would divide and polarize the audience," Harris, who originated the role on Broadway, explained. "Actually, each night the audience was unified and regardless of their circumstances could relate to Hedwig's struggle. And I think that's entirely because of Stephen [Trask]'s music. It penetrates your mind into your soul and into your bones in a way that regardless of what you're currently experiencing in your life you can relate in some way to it."
Harris and Lena Hall, both won Tony Awards last June for their roles and the show has been nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
