The Intern: Robert De Niro is Anne Hathaway’s Fashion Apprentice and Errand Boy in Nancy Meyers’ New Workplace Comedy
Warner Bros. Pictures' The Intern is a workplace comedy written, directed and co-produced by Nancy Meyers. Scheduled for release to US theaters on September 25, the film stars multiple awards-winning actors Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the lead roles. Joining them in the cast are Rene Russo, Andrew Rannells, Adam DeVine, Nat Wolff, Anders Holm, Linda Lavin, Zack Pearlman, Reid Scott, Jason Orley, and Christina Scherer.
In The Intern, the 71-year-old De Niro plays 70-year-old Ben Whittaker, a widower who has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes an intern at a successful online fashion site, founded and run by Hathaway's character, Jules Ostin. As part of a new program, Jules reluctantly takes in the senior citizen to be her intern. At first hesitant, Hathaway's Jules eventually learns to respect and even like her new intern despite their vast age difference.
Principal photography for The Intern is complete and the project is now in post-production. Stephen Goldblatt is doing the cinematography and Robert Leighton is on editing.
Following his role as The Intern, De Niro is expected to be seen next as Dirty Grandpa, another comedy movie also starring Zac Efron, Zoey Deutch, Aubrey Plaza, and Dermot Mulroney. Filming for Dirty Grandpa, which is set for release on August 12, 2016, has already begun this month with location shoots being reported taken in Atlanta, Georgia and Florida.
Hathaway on the other hand will next be seen as Mirana of Marmoreal, the White Queen in the fantasy film Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass which will show in theaters on May 27, 2016. The project, which is now also in post-production, boasts of an ensemble cast that includes, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Rhys Ifans, Matt Lucas, Ed Speelers, and Mia Wasikowska as the Alice in the title.
