Pitch Perfect 2: The Barden Bellas Are Back and They Are Joining an International A Cappella Competition That No American Team Has Ever Won Before
Universal Pictures' Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit musical comedy film Pitch Perfect which was based loosely on Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory, is ready for release to US theaters on May 15. As with the first film, Kay Cannon penned the screenplay for the sequel. Elizabeth Banks produced, directed and also co-stars in Pitch Perfect 2. According to the official synopsis, the film will follow what happens once the collegiate a cappella group the Barden Bellas enters an international a capella competition that no American group has ever won.
Returning to reprise their Pitch Perfect roles are Anna Kendrick as Beca Mitchell, Skylar Astin as Jesse Swanson, Rebel Wilson as Patricia "Fat Amy," Brittany Snow as Chloe Beale, Ester Dean as Cynthia Rose Adams, Alexis Knapp as Stacie Conrad, Hana Mae Lee as Lilly Okanakamura, Adam DeVine as Bumper Allen, Anna Camp as Aubrey Posen, Ben Platt as Benji Applebaum, Kelley Jackle as Jessica, John Michael Higgins as John Smith, Freddie Stroma as Luke, and Elizabeth Banks as Gail Abernathy-McKadden, a commentator for the ICCAs. Hailee Steinfield was added to the cast as a new member of the Barden Bellas along with Katey Sagal as her mother. Also new to the franchise are Birgitte Hjort Sorensen, Christopher Shepard, and C. J. Perry.
Incidentally, the Green Bay Packers will also be seen in Pitch Perfect 2. During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers to promote her upcoming film, star Anna Kendrick revealed that the professional football team will have a cameo role in the movie. She said: "They are fans. Like they were talking about it so much that our producers were like, 'We should probably ask them to be in it.' They showed up and they could do the whole finale number back to front. Like, knew it inside out."
