Angry Birds: All-Star Voice Cast Featured in Big-Screen Adaptation of Video Game Series

Angry Birds, the computer-animated movie based on the video game series of the same name is scheduled for release in theaters in 3D on 1 July 2016. The main cast has Jason Sudeikis as Red, the bird with a temper problem; Josh Gad as the speedy Chuck; Danny McBride as the volatile Bomb; Bill Hader as Bad Piggies; Maya Rudolph as Matilda; and, Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle. In supporting roles are Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Romeo Santos, and Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla).

John Cohen, producer of the film, via Rovio, said, "I'm extremely proud of this cast. Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they're surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent - these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we're thrilled to have them all on board."

Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly from a screenplay by Jon Vitti, the Angry Birds movie marks the first foray into full-length feature film production by Finnish video-game developer Rovio Entertainment. Now in development at Sony Pictures Imageworks, the upcoming film was heralded by the launch of the weekly Angry Birds Toons animated TV series which has reportedly surpassed more than three billion views in its first 18 months on air.

As part of the promo, Rovio and Sony have launched a new website, Unlock the Flock, where fans can unlock exclusive first looks at the Angry Birds by sharing #UnlockTheFlock on their Twitter accounts. Every share will be tracked globally, along with a gameplay action that will launch one bird in favor of the tweeting fan. Once one billion birds are finally 'flung', participating fans will be able to get some first look at the anticipated release based on their mobile app.

Sony Pictures' Theatrical Marketing president Dwight Caines said, "With two and a half billion gamers around the world, Angry Birds is one of those brands that can drive massive fan engagement.  That's why we wanted to bring this unlock to the fans first.  Our filmmakers are cooking up a hilarious movie, and we know these fans can't wait to see how they're going to bring the Angry Birds' story to life on the big screen of movie theaters."
