The Revenant news: Biopic of famous explorer Hugh Glass to star Leonardo DiCaprio
Another biopic that is soon to hit the screens is that of Hugh Glass, titled The Revenant. The film will star Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy and will be written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu along with Mark L. Smith as co-writer.
González Iñárritu was the first Mexican director to be nominated for an Academy Awards and by the Directors Guild of America for Best Director.
Hugh Glass was an American fur trapper and frontiersman noted for his exploits in the American West during the first third of the 19th century.
He was an explorer of the watershed of the Upper Missouri River in present day North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. Glass was famed, most of all, as a frontier folk hero for his legendary cross-country trek after being mauled by a grizzly bear.
The film was put on hold in March 2012, as New Regency hired González Iñárritu to direct an adaptation of Jennifer Vogel's tome Flim-Flam Man, a non-fiction book about her criminal father. Sean Penn was also under consideration for the lead role in that film. In December, González Iñárritu announced that his next film would be Birdman, a comedy about an actor who once played a famous superhero. Filming for Birdman took place in March 2013. González Iñárritu was scheduled to begin production on The Revenant after Birdman wrapped.
The film is scheduled to have a limited release in the United States on December 25, 2015, followed by a wide release on January 8, 2016.
